Nearly three years have passed since the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests in Iran. Many of those who took part in the 1401 (2022–2023) protests paid a heavy price — from those who were killed, to countless people who suffered permanent bodily injuries, those who were sentenced to long prison terms, and also individuals who lost their jobs. Among the well-known figures who supported these protests, Taraneh Alidoosti, the renowned Iranian film actress, is one of the most prominent. The publication of her unveiled photo, and later her protest against the execution of Mohsen Shekari, led to her imprisonment. After her release, she fell ill and stayed away from the public eye for a long time. Ms. Alidoosti has also been barred from acting in cinema.
