Distraught, confused, and half-wild with fear, Sarah Carter emerges alone from the Appalachian cave system where she encountered unspeakable terrors. This is a very pale and far more generic version of the story being told in the first movie. As such, it is a far less interesting movie as well. The characters are far less engaging, the monsters are far less scary, and the tension simply doesn't materialize in the same way that the first one did.
